How long does the coxswain course take?

The Coxswain Grade 1 NC course is 29 days (5 weeks) in total. It can be done as a single 5-week block or split into three separate bookable blocks.

What can I do with a coxswain certificate?

A Coxswain Grade 1 NC allows you to command Australian registered commercial vessels under 12 metres in inshore waters, including water taxis, charter fishing boats, passenger charter yachts and police vessels.

What sea service is needed for the coxswain course?

You need either 30 days on commercial vessels with a completed AMSA task book, or 150 days on commercial or recreational vessels without one.

How old do you need to be to do the coxswain course?

You must be at least 16 years old to enrol.
